Crumble Without You

The Inspiration of Heroes

January 7, 2011

Hard work is the key to success, so work diligently on any project you undertake. If you truly want to be successful, be prepared to give up your leisure time and work past 5 PM and on weekends. Also, have faith in yourself. If you come up with a new idea that you believe in, don't allow other people to discourage you from pursuing it.

~Charles Lazarus

What does it mean to actually work hard? I often think about this when I asses the goals that I have set for myself. Is it being so consumed with your goals that even your dreams have you seeing your success? Maybe it’s working so hard that you physically cannot do anymore. Or it could be all your emotions just emptied in every direction leaving you in dismay because you are not sure if you have succeeded.

Every day I witness two amazing people in my life who are probably the two hardest working people I have ever seen. There are no set hours, schedules, or lunch breaks for these two. Their days start with an obvious relentlessness to either be perfect or to reach the next step to seize perfection. That is the only way I can explain it.  They are my mother and father.

I have seen my mother wake up at 6am and work till 10pm. I know that she’s probably only running on tea (two tea bags) and a yogurt. I’ve seen this routine since I was a little boy. Her desire to help others is inspiring and crazy all in one. My mother is a nurse and a SAINT (in my eyes). She has been caring for others for over 30 years. There is no way she is human, people have said. Her hard work overshadows her kindness at times. Her work has become her life.

My father also has worked his whole life. Every young boy, for the most part, looks at their father as invincible. I know I did! My father was a Police Officer and is my hero. It’s funny because typing that actually made me realize that he is my hero. My father has become consumed with his profession nowadays. His days are spent in his office, in his car, or on the road. I was always under the impression that you work to retire and relax. Well my pops retired and has been working ever since. I truly believe that my parents cannot ‘NOT’ work. It’s almost like a genetic disposition.

I wrote about my parents because as I stated before I have never witnessed people work as hard as either of them. My inquiring of the hard work notion above brought about different theories that can define hard work. Charles Lazarus says, “Be prepared to give up your leisure time.” Well what happens when in your leisure time you are thinking about working toward your goals? Is that leisure?

I feel that my mother, father, and I all contribute to the definition. I am consumed with making my goals a reality. I can actually vividly see my goal and each time I do it seems to be getting closer. I have tremendous FAITH in myself and in God that I will reach my goals. I will, as Lazarus states, “believe and not allow others to discourage my will.” My undeniable will has to be an inherited trait that my mother and father combined have graced me with.

Here I am writing about the hard work my parents have put in to their professions and have blindly overlooked the hard work that they have put into being amazing parents. Maybe hard work is having two young boys to provide for and always wanting them to be showered in love and have the best life you can provide. Maybe it’s dedicating yourself to your family and always making sure that they are safe and healthy. Or perhaps it’s raising your sons to become great men who can say, “I work hard to make my parents proud.”

When the work load becomes too much take a step back, breathe deep; close your eyes… p.u.s.h.

I believe that only you know if you work hard or not.

Never Surrender

November 19, 2010

Strength does not come from winning. Your struggles develop your strengths. When you go through hardships and decide not to surrender, that is strength.
-ARNOLD Schwarzenegger

            I read this quote and had to share it with you. These words stand true to me in so many ways. It is through struggle that we gain/develop strength. This is where p.u.s.h. originated for me. I live a very healthy life style and am constantly staying fit and trying to achieve new goals. My passion for ...

DEVOTION

November 12, 2010

The heart can think of no devotion
Greater than being shore to ocean -
Holding the curve of one position,
Counting an endless repetition.

~ Robert Frost

          I am a big fan of poetry and Robert Frost, in my opinion, is one of the best. The poem above, DEVOTION, hit me when I was brainstorming for a new p.u.s.h. blog. His words are strong and few, like our PRAY UNTIL SOMETHING HAPPENS.

          I wanted to focus on the line “counting an endless repetition,” for thi...

Who Are We To Judge?

October 20, 2010

“We wouldn't ask why a rose that grew from the concrete for having damaged petals, in turn, we would all celebrate its tenacity, we would all love it’s will to reach the sun, well, we are the roses, this is the concrete and these are my damaged petals, don’t ask me why, thank god, and ask me how.”

~ Tupac Shakur

Who am I to judge you?

Who are you to judge?

I listen to music all the time; it’s my escape from reality sometimes. Isn’t it crazy how some songs and their lyrics...

PRAY UNTIL SOMETHING HAPPENS…

October 15, 2010

When the road you're trudging seems all uphill;
When the funds are low, and the debts are high
And you want to smile, but have to sigh;
When care is pressing you down a bit-
Rest if you must, but do not quit.
Success is failure turned inside out;
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt;
And you can never tell how close you are
It may be near when it seems so far;
So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit-
It's when things go wrong that you must not quit.

Failure Is Not Falling Down, It's Staying Down

October 11, 2010

"If you have made mistakes, there is always another chance for you. You may have a fresh start any moment you choose, for this thing we call 'failure' is not the falling down, but the staying down. "

~ Mary Pickford

            This quote really made me think about my life. Like everyone, I have made a lot of mistakes. I have lied, cheated; I even stole something once. RELAX! It was candy and I was about 6 years old. Trust me, I learned my lesson. My parents taught my brother and I th...

The Long, Hard Journey of Mark Herzlig

October 8, 2010

Strength does not come from physical capacity. It comes from an indomitable will.
- Mahatma Gandhi

When I read this quote, I instantly thought of Mark Herzlich. Mark is the starting linebacker for Boston College. He was diagnosed with Ewing's sarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer, on May 14, 2009. He showed an "INDOMITABLE WILL," to overcome this disease and used the love of his family and friends to gain strength each day. Mark has said, "I wasn't overly religious before, but I b...

Never Give Up

October 7, 2010
“It does not matter how slowly you go so long as you do not stop."-Confucius

            I have had the opportunity to help people over the past couple of years. Recently, I became a certified personal trainer and have also worked as a substitute teacher. I really have been blessed with the people that I have met through these occupations. You truly see what lies within a person when they are faced with a challenge.

            My first lessons came from a group of young autistic ch...

COURAGE

October 5, 2010

“Courage is absolute trust in your own abilities; only fear can keep you grounded.”

~Author Unknown

So my question is… How easy is it to just give up sometimes? To say, “I’m DONE!” In my opinion it is too easy and I have done it. I have let myself down many times with a defeated mentality. I look back on days where I “hung it up” too soon. I hate that I was so w...
